But I'm quite sure he's never dropped an F-bomb during a press conference.
Roy Williams earned that distinction last night after North Carolina's win over N.C. State.
“We stink,” Williams said, talking about their press.
When asked what was wrong with the pressure defense, Williams calmly responded:
“If I knew the answer to that do you think we'd still be (expletive) stinkin'?”
After nervous laughter in the room, Williams apologized for using the curse word.
“I can't believe I said that,” Williams said. “I only say that on the golf course.”
Uh oh. Wonder if Williams' wife broke out the Lifebuoy soap last night when he got home?
I'd love to hear an audio clip of that sequence. Had to be priceless.
Ol' Roy still has a ways to go to put himself in Mike Gundy's class, though.
What in the world is wrong with Virginia Tech?
The Hokies were tripped up at Virginia last night, and their NCAA Tournament hopes -- once considered a sure thing -- are now circling the drain.
The Hokies are 16-9 overall and 6-5 in the ACC, having lost four of their past six.
And take a gander at their remaining schedule: Florida State, at Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, at Florida State.
Not good. Not good a'tall.
Here's more on the Tar Heels' victory, and Lenox Rawlings of the Winston-Salem Journal on Wake Forest avenging its loss at Georgia Tech.
Here are the latest ACC standings, by the way:
North Carolina 10-2
Clemson 7-4
Wake Forest 7-4
Duke 7-4
Florida State 7-4
Boston College 7-5
Virginia Tech 6-5
Maryland 5-6
N.C. State 4-7
Miami 4-8
Virginia 3-8
Georgia Tech 1-11
Here's a ranking of the Top 5 ACC football matchups in 2009, and I'll have to disagree with putting Boston College-Notre Dame No. 5. Yawn.
A suitable replacement: Nebraska at Virginia Tech.
Travis Sawchik of The Post and Courier has a look at Clemson's baseball team, which opens the season tomorrow at home against Charlotte.
Here's an update on former Tiger Steve Durham from the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.
And speaking of heartwarming stories, you've probably already seen this one on Tanner Smith by ESPN.com's Dana O'Neil. But just in case, here it is.
